A complete review of Whitepress for content adn link-building services.

Those who are involved in Link Building and Outreach will surely have come across the following scenario many times.

1. A member of the Outreach Team contacts the Publisher in question with the intention of publishing an article there for Link Acquisition purposes.

2. No response at first contact or at best a late response.

3. In case you get a response to the first communication, a lengthy back and forth begins between the Publisher and the Linkbuilder to come to a price, as well as various other details about the type of article and special details that may relate to different types of articles (native, advertorials, etc.).

4. The publisher posts the article, but then the Linkbuilder has to check that everything is as it should be. The link is do-follow, there is no sponsored tag, the link has been placed in the desired anchor text that was indicated and so on (or at least it should do these checks).

While this might not be the case always, it certainly often is.

And for me personally it is the most frustrating stage of the whole process, as we are not dealing with the essential part of link building but with time-consuming communications.

As a solution to exactly all these pain points the Whitepress platform has been built.

It is essentially a Marketplace/intermediary which brings together “Marketers” and Publishers to publish an article on a Publisher with “Publishers” who offer their Site for publishing articles by interested parties.

In this Review I will present more the side of the “Marketers” as Whitepress calls him and not the “Publisher”, as I will focus more on how the platform makes the life of Linkbuilders easier, by streamlining all those tasks/controls we used to do manually and integrating them into a user-friendly interface.

How the Platform Works

how does whitepress works

The process of setting up your profile and selecting and ordering an article is quite streamlined and in my opinion is the main advantage of the platform, along with the user-friendly UI.

whitepress profile

After you:

  • create your profile,
  • put the website for which you want to order an article,
  • fill in all the necessary details regarding company details, addresses, contact details, etc,

you are ready to start using the platform.

By going to the main page of “Marketers”, in the middle of the page and specifically in the section “My Projects” you can select the Project for which you will place an order, as well as the type of order.

My projects on whitepress

Whitepress offers 2 types of orders:

  • Re-published article, either written by you or by Whitepress itself for an extra fee, to any partner Publisher you choose.
  • Link Insertion to an existing article on any affiliate Publisher you choose.

By selecting the type of order you want you will then be redirected to the Whitepress search engine with all the filters and listed Publishers.

The Whitepress Search Engine and its Functions

Whitepress basic filters.

Clicking to order a publication takes us to a screen as shown in the screenshot above.

Basic Filters

Right away we see several basic filters for searching based on:

Keyword or Publisher Name

Theme: The general industry of the Publisher, i.e. “Tourism”.

Country: The country that the Publisher is targeting, i.e. Greece or Cyprus if we are referring to the Greek market.

Type of Portal: the type of Publisher, i.e. General Community Portal, Thematic Portal, etc.

Price filters: Here you can set a minimum and maximum price range.

Minimum Number of Unique Users: Whitepress requests a recent screenshot from Google Analytics from all Publishers to fill in this field on the backend and provide this information to registered marketers. Those Publishers who do not provide Google Analytics Screenshot, they are listed that the traffic number shown in the platform is not verified.

Do-Follow Links: if you tick this box you will be shown only Publishers whose links to the articles they publish are do-follow. The logic is that just because the platform is not only used for Linkbuilding purposes but also for Content Marketing & Branding purposes, someone may want to publish a more promotional/promotional article to a Publisher with the intention of Brand Awareness and not Linkbuilding so much. So he may not care about Do-Follow. Same goes for repurposing content.

Number of Links in the Content: Whitepress always asks Publishers how many links to the marketer’s site they are willing to allow to be included per article and then provides this information to the search engine as a separate filter.

Promotions Only: If your article is not about link building, but about promoting either your brand or a service/product, selecting this filter will only show Publishers that accept this.

Miscellaneous Other Filters: There are some other filters that have to do with Publishers that you have tagged as “Favorites”, or Publishers that Whitepress itself has tagged as having an “Attractive Price” based on how competitive their offer is (usually happens to sites in the region that have pretty good DR/Traffic, but not a high price).

SEO Filters

Marketing filters when using Whitepress

Clicking on the “Advanced Filters” button will open a new sub-set of filters, which are divided into:

  • Marketing filters
  • SEO filters
  • Technical and Other Filters

Since the focus of this review is how to use Whitepress for linkbuilding purposes and how good/bad their product is, let’s take a closer look at the SEO filters.

Minimum Trust Flow: “Minimum Trust Flow” is Majestic’s Trust Flow where it shows the overall trustworthiness of the site based on the quality of backlinks this site has gotten. In this field we put the minimum Trust Flow value we want the Publishers from which we want to show up in the results.

Minimum Page Rating: this indicator is the Page Rating from Ahrefs’ Site Audit, which shows on a scale of 1-100 the strength of a URL based on the internal linking it gets. As this index is for individual URLs, in this case what. Whitepress is showing an average PR of all Publisher pages.

Minimum Domain Rating: Here we put the minimum value of DR (Ahrefs Metric on how strong a website is overall, on a scale of 0-100 based on its link profile) that we want the Publishers to have.

Minimum Citation Flow: This is the field where we put the minimum Citation Flow value (Majestic Metric on how strong a URL is based on the number of links linking to it).

Minimum Average UR Value: this is the field where we put the minimum average UR value (Ahrefs Metric on how strong a URL is on a scale of 0-100 based on its link profile) that we want the Publishers that will be displayed to us to have. This is an average metric of the UR of all the Publisher pages in this case. I don’t find it very useful, as most pages on a site can have very low URs, as they don’t get external links and thus bring the average very low.

Maximum Ahrefs Rank: This is the field where we put the minimum value of Ahrefs Rank (Ahrefs Metric which is practically the same as DR, just instead of 0-100 scale it is in absolute number). This Ahrefs Metric has never done very well, very few people I believe keep track of it. Most of them follow the DR.

Minimum Traffic Ahrefs: This is the field where we put the minimum organic traffic based on Ahrefs that we want the Publishers that the search engine will show us. For me personally it is a key indicator in evaluating a website for link acquisition (well above DR).

Minimum Domain Authority: this is the field where we put the DA (Moz metric on how strong a website is overall on a scale of 0-100 based on its link profile).

Exclude Domains Linking to Me: Just great feature! Basically, it allows us to use specific import methods to exclude from the results of Publishers that the search engine will show us, Publishers that we have already gotten a link from.

Linking domain option to block already gotten links from publishers.

We can very easily block it from showing us Publishers that:

  • we have already gotten a link via a previous article we purchased from Whitepress,
  • has GSC read that we have taken link (by exporting the links from there and uploading the spreadsheet here),
  • Ahrefs has read that Ahrefs has given us a link (it pulls via API directly the links that Ahrefs has read that our site has gotten).

Tagging of articles: Another excellent filter. Another nice feature is another great one. It allows us to filter out Publishers who tag their articles as “Sponsored”. “Sponsored” is defined as simply the word Sponsored somewhere in the article, not the html tag rel=”sponsored”. Xreal filter that saves infinite time.

Miscellaneous Other Filters: There are some other filters related to the inbound/outbound link ratio, and the percentage of Publisher’s posts that get indexed.

Marketing, Technical and Other Filters

Marketing filters inside Whitepress, the most important ones.

As an even greater level of filtering, Whitepress offers several other filters, some SEO-related and some not. Some of them are:

Promotion on Facebook: it is most likely that it is understood that the Publisher can simply share your article on his Facebook page.

Traffic tracking: Whitepress gives Publishers the option to put in the articles they publish a proprietary HTML tracking script which then gives traffic data of the article to the advertiser who paid for that article. Pretty good for branded articles where the advertiser is interested in as much exposure as possible.

HTTPS: SEO-Relevant filter that helps us to filter all those Publishers that don’t have SSL yet (although I guess they are few).

Exclude Subdomains: SEO-Relevant filter that helps us to exclude different subdomains from the same main domain, in case there are Publishers that put different websites on subdomains under their main domain.

My Personal Rating For the Whitepress Search Engine Available Filters

The level of filtering available is extremely advanced. While in small markets you may not need all these filters, in huge markets like America this is these filters are required for the correct selection of Publishers.

Choosing Publishers

How to choose publishers inside whitepress.

So after you have selected all your filters, it’s time to view the available Publishers based on them.

A representative example of the available list is shown in the screenshot. Let’s see what this list shows.

Unique Users: There are 2 main distinctions here. Publishers who have sent a screenshot from Google Analytics about the number of Unique Users have a green tick below the number. All others have a blue “(i)” which means that the number is not confirmed by an official source.

Ahrefs: This field shows the Organic Traffic based on Ahrefs. Clicking on the number or the Ahrefs icon shows the following very interesting report below.

Domain stats using ahrefs.

The platform communicates with the Ahrefs API and pulls all the relevant Publisher Stats and displays them in this report. Very useful!

Trust Flow: Publisher’s Trust Flow from Majestic.

Average URL value. Otherwise you will be shown all Publishers.

Do-Follow: here we can see if the Publisher gives a Do-Follow link or not. In as long as I have been using the platform I have seen that most of the listed Publishers give Do-Follow.

Traffic monitoring: This shows if the Publisher has accepted to put Whitepress‘ tracking script in their articles that gives traffic data of the article.

Substantive Assessment: An evaluation of Whitepress on the quality and actuality of the content in a scale of 1-10.

Price: The offers which have a good price-quality ratio of the Publisher Website are tagged with the “Attractive” token.

Clicking on the small icon of the rightmost book will show you all available search engine filters beyond the default ones shown in this report.

Clicking on the “View Offers” button will open the following window showing the Summary of the Publisher offer you have selected.

making an order

After clicking “Select” you can specify how you want to upload the article.

Ordering Content Writing From Whitepress

Price to have a guest post written by Whitepress.

You can order the writing of the article directly from Whitepress’ Copywriters according to the prices above.

You can then specify literally any detail you may need about your article writing so that the Copywriters have as clear a direction as possible.

From the type of article (native, branded etc) to the anchor text of the link, the landing page it will send to, whether the link will be do-follow and much more. You can even order photos for that particular article.

Uploading Your Own Article

Uploading your own guest post through Whitepress.

The 2nd option is to upload the article yourself by clicking on “Add New Article”. This will open a full Editor with everything you might need to upload the content.

After you upload the article you must complete the payment process. You can pay with Paypal, credit/debit or with the credits you may have in your account.

Once the Transaction is completed, there is a roughly 3-5 day waiting period until the article is published to the Publisher, which also depends on whether you provide ready-made Content for publication or order Content from Whitepress.

In my case, where I gave ready content for publication it took 3 days.

Whitepress Review

Positives

Time Saving: Whitepress actually does all the heavy lifting of looking for Publishers in 10 different ways, evaluating them, contacting them, negotiating, reaching an agreement and double-checking after publication that everything is as it should be. Practically all of this translates into infinite time savings. To be honest, when it comes to post-publication double-checking I will continue to do it anyway, but at least now I have an extra layer of protection.

Saving money due to man-hours: Saving time actually saves money and man-hours that can be invested in other tasks regarding the outreach team in question.

Plenty of Filters for Very Selective Selection of Publishers: they have almost everything covered for evaluating Publishers. I personally didn’t find anything missing.

Straightforward UX: The UX is very straightforward. It didn’t confuse me at all.

European reach: Whitepress includes 29 countries, most of those in the European area and the U.S.. Whitepress is suitable for both local and International projects.

Suitable for Branding Articles: although the focus of the review was on how we can use the platform for link building, this does not mean that it is not suitable for branding articles. There is even an option to search for Publishers who will promote the article on their homepage for maximum exposure.

Whitepress manually checks everything until 1 year after the publication: I would never trust anyone other than myself or a member of my team to do QA on Linkbuilding. However, it’s definitely a good thing that Whitepress itself does the necessary Quality Checks, and even performs them up to 1 year after the article is published, to ensure that everything remains as it should.

Excellent QA: In my personal experience during an order and a problem that arose where the article initially had the “Sponsored” tag while the Publisher in his Specs was saying he was publishing without a Sponsored tag, I didn’t even have to intervene as Whitepress itself stepped in, resolved the issue and removed that tag.

Negatives

Not Big Enough Inventory For Greece Yet: Although for the Greek market they already have 500+ Publishers available, there are sites that are not listed yet.

The Greek Multi-Field Translations are Borderline Incomprehensible: This was the first major negative for me. The translations of several filters if you have the platform language typeset in Greek are quite unintelligible. I had to end up having to flip to English to understand what I was reading in each metric.

Difference in prices from Publishers & Platform: Another major negative is that in some cases there is a difference between the price that someone may have gotten after directly contacting the Publisher for article publication and a different price (specifically a higher price) being shown on Whitepress. In fact, after my post on Linkedin about how we save time in outreach using the platform, this very issue was raised by an Agency Owner who experienced the same.

In conclusion, despite any negatives I believe that Whitepress has an extremely powerful Product that saves time, effort and all this dressed in a very user friendly environment.

The one thing I think they should resolve as soon as possible is the price difference with going direct to Publisher versus what is shown on the Whitepress platform. If this is resolved I think it’s almost certain that they will prevail (in the Greek market at least).

Affiliate Disclosure: I have an affiliate partnership with Whitepress. However, I would never compromise my Personal Brand to recommend a service that doesn’t provide value and I don’t really believe in it.
